The Medical Amnesty Initiative is a Michigan based non-profit organization that is dedicated to the introduction, passage, and education of Medical Amnesty legislation throughout the United States. Our hope is that we will soon see a nation where young people are no longer afraid to dial 911 for an individual who desperately needs medical attention.

Our Mission

About Us

Medical Amnesty legislation saves lives.

Each year, thousands of young people tragically lose their lives to alcohol poisoning and other alcohol related unintentional injuries. In situations where a minor is in need of emergency medical attention, studies show the worry is more about getting in to trouble and receiving a Minor in Possession/Consumption of alcohol (MIP) ticket, instead of the well being of that person. As a result, lives are put at risk.

Medical Amnesty legislation (911 Good Samaritan, 911 Lifeline, etc.) can eliminate these common fears by guaranteeing a limited immunity to the underage and intoxicated individuals who seek help for themselves or another individual who is in need of immediate medical attention.

What We Do

Educate!

The Medical Amnesty Initiative works with organizations in states with Medical Amnesty protection to educate young people about the law. Through education, we can work to eliminate the fear young people have of calling 911 for help for a dangerously intoxicated friend.

Advocate!

The Medical Amnesty Initiative works with state government leaders and organizations to develop and introduce Medical Amnesty legislation. We advocate for the passage of the bill and provide research and educational support throughout the process.
